Employee Engagement (Surveys)

Executives place a good deal of emphasis on employee engagement, and rightfully so. Engaged employees are absolutely necessary for your business to be successful. But all too often, employee engagement initiatives (and measurements) are poorly conceived. Since the drivers of employee engagement are not identical to the drivers of business results, attempting to maximize employee engagement can actually take your business in the wrong direction. Organizations need to be sure to focus on initiatives that improve employee engagement while also driving results.

Solutions Tailored to Your Business

McBassi provides a powerful suite of tools that are customized to your needs in order to identify the unique drivers of employee engagement at your organization and link them to business results. We are leaders in human capital analytics, with decades of experience and a depth of knowledge that enables us to link the people side of your business to your organization’s key performance indicators. Our assessment tools will help your organization make breakthrough discoveries by taking the guesswork out of the people side of your business.

Analytics: the McBassi Advantage

Our flagship organizational assessment tool, the McBassi People Index® (MPI), takes you beyond benchmarking—to actionable insight about the unique human drivers of your business results. We go way beyond standard one-size-fits-all measures of engagement, so that we can identify the unique levers that your organization can use to improve both engagement and business results. We use a smarter employee survey and statistically link the human capital measures that emerge to your business results. Other analytic tools will tell you where you’ve been; only the MPI will tell you where you’re going.
Our Experience

In an analysis of four large retail banks, we discovered that, despite the similarities in the four institutions, the drivers of employee engagement differed significantly between each of them. Further, there was virtually no overlap between the human drivers of their business results and employee engagement. Focusing on benchmarking was costing the banks precious time and resources; they needed instead to be identifying their own unique drivers of engagement.

Increasing Sales Productivity

In today’s highly competitive market effective sales people are critical to your organization’s success and of vital importance in improving the bottom line. Despite their essential role most companies have no systems in place for gauging their effectiveness beyond short term bottom line numbers. All to often organizations fail to identify and nurture the connection between increased productivity and the work, leadership and learning environments supporting them.

McBassi provides a powerful suite of tools that will help you easily quantify and understand the people related issues that can hinder your organizations ability to hit targeted sales goals. Analytics: the McBassi Advantage
The McBassi People Index® (MPI) provides fact--based analytics and actionable recommendations for increasing sales productivity by linking data on the success of individual sales employees and or teams with our MPI measures (as well as training and experience profiles). Our Experience

American Standard needed a way of measuring and monitoring the effectiveness of its talent management initiatives, linking these initiatives to sales productivity and then using the resulting insights to drive continuous improvement. Working with American Standard over a 5--year period, McBassi implemented the MPI several times on a global basis, with the company relying on the MPI as a disciplined, integral component of the way its business was run. When American Standard was sold at a 28% premium in early 2008, executives attributed a significant portion of this premium to the company’s partnership with McBassi.

Over the course of five years the McBassi People Index was applied to a school system in South Carolina to improve below average test scores and a disparity in achievement among minority children. By targeting and improving leadership development student learning increased by 30% and resulted in a significant increase in achievement among minority children.

Mergers & Acquisitions

Successful mergers and acquisitions can build corporate empires, while failed ones can destroy them. A lack of financial due diligence is rarely the cause of failure, instead it’s insufficient human capital due diligence. If armed with deep and conclusive insight into the people side of both businesses, you’ll be able to dramatically improve the likelihood that your merger or acquisition will be a success.

Solutions Tailored to Your Business

McBassi & Company, through its proprietary employee and business intelligence data gathering system, will show you with precision how the target company operates compared to the acquiring company. McBassi’s Human Capital Due Diligence analysis will arm you with insights into human capital weaknesses that must be remedied, strengths that must be preserved, and what employee-oriented activities should be pursued most vigorously to promote post-merger success.

Analytics: the McBassi Advantage

In conducting human capital due diligence, McBassi performs concurrent employee surveys and analysis of data on key performance indicators of all companies involved in a potential merger and acquisition. This makes it possible to rigorously identify gaps, inconsistencies, weaknesses, and strengths in the management of employees involved in the merger or acquisition. Then we perform a statistical linkage analysis to determine which weaknesses are hurting company performance and which strengths are yielding the best results in the companies involved. By documenting all the way down to the manager level, consistencies or inconsistencies in work processes, leadership quality, and employee management practices, it becomes possible to assess the impact of the companies’ cultures on business results. Other analytic tools will tell you where you’ve been; only McBassi will tell you where you’re going.

Industry Experience

Whether you’re concerned about a potential “talent exodus,” or looking for objective measures of who to retain and who to let go, McBassi’s Human Capital Due Diligence is the guide to understanding how to forge a unified front among workforces that have been trained, managed, developed, and worked under vastly different environments. McBassi’s works to produce key insights that promote post-merger success and replace guesswork with well–conceived strategies to promote employee productivity and foster growth.

Improving Safety & Quality

The recent Gulf disaster underscores the catastrophic effects that lapses in safety and quality processes can have on society, shareholders, employees, customers and the environment. It is more important now than ever to take a proactive approach to safety, identifying and addressing risks before it is too late.

McBassi provides a powerful suite of predictive tools to identify future safety and quality risks. We then deliver actionable business insight that identifies the key factors influencing these risks. Our Experience

A large U.S. manufacturing firm was being plagued by a high number of expensive quality and safety issues, its regular assessments failed to produce any answers or insights. McBassi took a different approach; we systematically qualified the human capital management and then statistically linked it to organizations quality and safety measures. This made it possible for us to identify several surprising quality/safety issues for the company. Our recommendations, which provided a detailed blueprint for addressing the problems, are currently being implemented across the entire organization.

Increasing Workforce Diversity

The most successful organizations know the importance of increasing employee diversity: it enables them to draw on a broader pool of talent, helps them compete more effectively in the global marketplace, and ensures that the organization reflects its customer base. These organizations actively strive for a diverse workforce, employing creative recruitment techniques and creating an organizational culture that embraces diversity. For other organizations the pursuit of diversity is focused on tracking head counts and wondering why minority employees seem to leave the organization at higher rates than others (or perhaps never get hired in the first place).

Solutions Tailored to Your Business

McBassi provides a powerful suite of tools for identifying the true enablers and inhibitors to attracting, developing and retaining a diverse and talented workforce. We use a pioneering strategy that goes far beyond standard benchmarking to identify the unique levers in your organization that can be used to improve diversity (and, as a direct corollary, your business results). By clearly identifying these elements, you’ll have a newfound capacity to get executive buy-in to address diversity challenges and drive bottom line results.

Analytics: the McBassi Advantage

The McBassi People Index® (MPI) provides fact-based analytics that will help you discover and quantify the specific and unique issues that limit the effectiveness of your diversity initiatives. We utilize a smarter employee survey, along with other sources of data, to produce new insights into the people side of your business. The results and recommendations are then presented in an easily understood graphical report with solutions tailored to each business unit. Other analytic tools will tell you where you’ve been; only the MPI will tell you where you’re going.

Our Experience

A large professional service firm was losing its diversity edge over time, despite continued verbal commitment from its leaders about the importance of a diverse work force. Through a targeted implementation of the MPI the firm was provided with a rigorous, statistical analysis of the variables relating to an employee’s intent to stay and turnover data by gender and age, as well as valuable and precise insight into the locations and business units where diversity issues were the most problematic. Armed with this data, the firm finally developed and implemented a strategy for effectively addressing its long-standing diversity issues.

Increasing Employee Retention

The cost and time involved with hiring and training new employees is enormous. Every time an employee leaves, those costs need to be incurred again. As the job market begins to improve, many employees are going to start making long-delayed job changes. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that this number could be as high as 60% of existing employees, presenting a major challenge (and resource drain) for companies going forward.

Solutions Tailored to Your Business

McBassi provides a powerful suite of tools for creating actionable insight into the steps needed to become an employer of choice, with the ability to attract, retain, and make the best use of a diverse workforce. Our measurement methodologies not only enable an organization to evaluate the impact of its investments (from tuition assistance to call center training to leadership development), but rigorously identify how to better optimize those investments in the future.

Analytics: the McBassi Advantage

The McBassi People Index® (MPI) provides fact based analytics and actionable recommendations for increasing employee retention. Based on years of research, our flagship tool provides a predictive blueprint to help you focus on the most critical elements of your people management. The information is made accessible and readily understandable with color coded graphical reports. Other analytic tools will tell you where you’ve been; the MPI will tell you where you’re going.

Our Experience

GTSI’s new CEO concluded that developing a coherent, competitive human capital strategy was essential to the company’s ability to survive and to turn around its declining market share. As a first step, the Washington-based technology contractor deployed the MPI, with the intent of identifying the specific drivers of employee commitment (such as employees’ intention to stick with GTSI through its recovery). The analysis revealed a specific path forward that GTSI continues to pursue in its efforts to retain its key employees. Since the project’s inception, GTSI’s annual voluntary turnover has dropped from 55 percent to just 15 percent.

Cultural Assessments

Organizational culture is one of the most crucial cornerstones of any business. It defines the organization, determines its ability to meet goals, increases (or reduces) employee retention, and ultimately affects the organizations very ability to survive. Most culture surveys, however, fall short of the mark because they fail to link culture to key organizational outcomes or to produce actionable business intelligence that can help drive the bottom line. As a result, they often receive little credence.

Solutions Tailored to Your Business

McBassi provides a powerful suite of tools that are customized to your organization to uncover exactly how your culture helps, or hurts, your ability to drive the organization’s bottom line. By directly linking our measures of your organization’s culture to a wide range of key performance indicators, we provide you with a whole new level of actionable insights about how to drive better results for your company. Because our recommendations are specific, and actionable, they will create interest, attention, and buy-in from executives and managers throughout your organization.

These experiences have provided us with an in-depth understanding that enables us to assess the crucial links between your organizations culture and its results. Other analytic tools will tell you where you’ve been; only the MPI will tell you where you’re going.

Industry Experience

On March 23, 2005, an explosion at BP’s Texas City refinery killed 15 people and injured 170 others, resulting in enormous financial losses. It was one of the most severe U.S. workplace disasters in decades. An intensive investigation led by former Secretary of State James Baker concluded that weak leadership resulted in a corporate culture that “left safety processes to the discretion of managers and did not define what was expected of them.” Baker’s report went on to say that, ”employees did not report accidents and safety concerns because they feared repercussions or judged that the company would not do anything about it.” Culture matters. If BP had given its culture the attention that it deserved the Deepwater Horizon tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico may never have occurred.
