Feedback during exit interviews – an often under-rated formality - should be a valued resource when it comes to making onboarding and organizational improvements. Deloitte - an international audit, financial advisory, tax, and consulting firm - heard loud and clear from departing employees that they were having a tough time connecting with others and left having never felt like part of a team. This ‘disconnect’ challenge for Deloitte was also amplified by a globally distributed workforce. The Talent Strategy team knew they needed to improve their employee orientation and onboarding processes. Their goals were to improve employee time to proficiency and retention for new employees – leaving them feeling welcomed, valued, and prepared. Deloitte used social computing – SharePoint and NewsGator Social Sites – to address each of these concerns while making the culture and organization more transparent.
