Description
Have You Ever…
.felt unsure of how to approach a family member, friend or colleague who may be struggling with a mental health issues? .wondered what the early warning signs of Depression might be? .wished that you could help break the silence and provide a safe and accepting workplace? Untreated mood disorders are costly – personally, corporately and socially. We know that mental health claims are the fastest growing category of disability costs and that the workplace is an important venue for detection, support and connection to treatment. In this presentation, we will examine three of the major mood disorders including Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Seasonal Affective Disorder. Though Depression is a wide spread illness that affects about 10% of the population there is a lot of misinformation surrounding it. We will look at how it differs from the blues and how this biochemical disorder causes changes in a person’s mood, behaviour and feelings and interferes with their everyday living. Through this stress and depression presentation, you will become aware of not only the signs, but the impact and treatment options available for Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Seasonal Affective Disorder. You will gain the insight and the practical tools needed to reduce the stigma and provide support to a co-worker, employee or family member who may be exhibiting and experiencing one of these mental illnesses. What have others said about this presentation: “Excellent – I realized the impact of Depression in many areas of life.” Guelph Services For Persons With Disabilities "I have a much better understanding of these illnesses and their treatments and I now realize how much this affects our whole population".
