Description
Join Laura Putnam, CEO of Motion Infusion, in Part II of the exploration into why it’s so important to keep moving – and in ways you may not have expected. (See “Please, Don’t Have a Seat!” webinar on July 12, 2012.) We all know that movement helps our bodies, but what about what it does for our brains? Learn how you can literally unleash your “inner genius” simply by becoming more physically active.
The latest breakthroughs in neuroscience are revealing the powerful effects of movement on our brains. In fact, some scientists are calling the benefits on the body “peripheral” in comparison. In this webinar, we’ll examine compelling case studies, such as schools that have dramatically raised test scores by replacing study hall with “fitness-based” PE or physical activity programs that have helped people into their nineties improve cognitive functioning! It turns out that physical activity helps our brain in three ways: it optimizes brain systems, enhances neural connections and produces more neurons. In particular, contra-lateral exercises (left-right exercises) are powerful ways to foster connections between the left and right sides of the brain, helping us to become a more powerful “whole-brain” thinkers. In addition to talking about the science, we’ll discuss specific movement-based techniques you can use on the job to enhance your own personal innovation capacity and ability to think “outside the box.” We’ll discuss how these techniques can be applied toward training and development - or toward building a stronger worksite wellness program that enhances both physical and creative well-being. This information is essential for anyone who is responsible for setting up or running an employee wellness program – and is looking for additional ways to “sell” the value of increased physical activity in the workplace. |
