So now that you’ve used social collaboration tools and you’ve captured your online dialogue in a database, what do you do with all this information? Do you have a current method of measuring the value of these online communities and networks of practice discussion ideas, knowledge share, and overall content? How are you leveraging the value placed on these discussions to recognize and process the relevant information from the rest of the content, generate new knowledge and use it to innovate and improve the organization’s products, processes or services.

We explored Phillips ROI Methodology model as enhanced by Bersin, incorporated Kaplan and Norton’s Strategy Maps, and determined its linkage to “cycles of value creation” model by Wenger, Trayner, and de Laat resulting in an evolved model to measure what we’ve called an organization’s “knowledge collective.” This session will showcase our model for measuring the value of e-communities using social network technologies for performance improvement with business objectives through the structural, cognitive and relational lens.

Staying on top of the latest health & safety regulations, training requirements, CSA Standards and industry best practices can be overwhelming and very confusing. And then there are the costs, in time and money, of doing the "right thing!" Compounding that issue is the simple fact that many HR professionals are being asked to wear yet another hat - and assume the mantle of the Health & Safety "expert" in their place of business. Seriously...why bother? In this tongue-in-cheek presentation, HASCO Vice-President Derek Bumstead, navigates you through the wrong ways to approach health & safety in your workplace - from the attitudes of the people at the top of the corporate food chain, to the culture of health & safety in each workplace, to the training ALL Ontario companies and organizations are required to provide. Be careful though! Because along the way, you might discover that the "right way" is actually the best way for your company...and you could save significant money in the process. The added benefit of having safer, more loyal workers is just the icing on the cake.

Gamification improves knowledge. Most people start learning to play games at a young age, and the human brain is built for game play. Certain functions in the brain organically work toward logical problem solving. Gaming takes this natural process and makes it fun and rewarding. Typically, this requires the player to remember information, make judgments and seek certain outcomes. Knowledge retention is a big part of an employee’s daily life, so promoting the most effective types of learning isn’t just important for the employee, it’s essential to an organization’s growth. Jeanne Meister, author of Corporate Universities, said that interactive learning games can increase long-term retention rates by up to 10 times — a significant statistic when considering knowledge retention. We will focus on an introduction to gamification and game-based learning; why it works; where it fits; measuring effectiveness; how to implement; and appropriate use cases for game-based learning.

With so many different types of HR software in use, it’s hard to make useful business decisions based on all of the data that’s available to us. This is because all of these pieces of software have their own reporting systems, and almost none of them are able to communicate with each other. The Tin Can API changes that. It’s a language that all HR, training, and learning platforms can speak, so they can share one common reporting system and help you learn things about your organization that weren’t possible before—including correlating real-world performance data with learning and HR data.
