Q&A

During 2011/2012, approximately 70% of child support collections came from employers. This resulted in $1.46 billion dollars for California’s children and families.

Why Report?
-Locate parents who are not paying their child support so they can be self sufficient.

-New Hire Reports are especially helpful for interstate cases, which are often the most difficult cases for states to resolve.

Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement and California match new hire reports against child support records to locate parents who owe child support. The matching process is especially helpful in interstate cases—often the most difficult cases to resolve—in which a parent and child live in different states. This information assist in locating parents; establish orders for support and provide earnings used to ascertain accurate financial information. In addition, EDD conducts matches between its own New Hire database and other state programs to prevent unlawful or erroneous receipt of public assistance, (unemployment benefits) including welfare, food stamps and Medicaid payments.

How you can help:
Report New Hires Within 20 Days

Be consistent when reporting FEIN and Company Legal Name on all forms submitted.

Benefits communities by saving taxpayer dollars-child support collections reimburse public assistance expenditures.
