Description
Despite the rapid growth of social media, misperceptions about tools such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, are common - especially when it comes to leveraging them for professional purposes. Uncertainty about how to best use them in business seems to be growing just as quickly as the sites themselves. At a time in which more business discussions take place via LinkedIn and Twitter than over cocktails and lunch meeting, it’s just as important- if not more so, to know how to present yourself professional using digital tools.

Social media has great potential to help you achieve your career goals - but it’s equally capable of holding you back. Given the newness of some social media tools and other communication vehicles, it’s easy to say or do the wrong thing, unfortunately, missteps in this area can have lasting consequences: An online mistake can show up next to your name in an Internet search for years to come.

This presentation offers a crash course in using social media to advance your career. It provides an introduction to LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter; outlines the professional uses of these technologies; and discusses how to get started with them. It will also help you avoid falling victim to social media blunders, insight into digital protocol and advice for handling sticky situations. Also discussed are pitfalls to watch out for you as embark on your social media efforts. The information and tips are based on surveys of executives, independent research, input from social media and etiquette experts and our own experiences working with job candidates and clients throughout North America.
