Description
Strategic Project Management – The Forgotten Phases of Project Management
The Leaders’ Roadmap for Selecting and Managing Change and Innovation in Chaotic Times

Mark Twain once said, "The only person who likes change is a baby with a wet diaper." So we might say, “Why bother?” Because, change is going to happen with or without us, therefore we either master change or become irrelevant. Or as Roland Barth has said, "In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned are beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists!" Therefore, we have to turn change into a competitive advantage and make change management one of our organizations strongest core competencies.

Every manager will have to implement changes at some level and every major implementation requires project management. Enterprise Wide and Strategic Project Management (SPM) are senior level evolutions of PM where the good of the enterprise or organization outweighs the successful implementation of any specific project. One could even define SPM as an executive approach to implementing change using a holistic strategic approach. Therefore, SPM helps us focus on the end results from an enterprise wide or organizational perspective. During this presentation Craig A. Stevens will draw on his 30 years of experience implementing changes to help us understand SPM. During the presentation we will use as a guide the outline from the book he is writing for Gower Publishing - Strategic Project Management - The Forgotten Phases of Project Management (The Leaders’ Roadmap for Selecting and Managing Change and Innovation in Chaotic Times).

I think the presentation was confusing because there really wasn't a lead in to what we were going to learn and why (learning objectives). Then at the end of the presentation I think maybe a wrap-up of what we learned and how we can use it. I have a background in PM and training but most HR professionals do not. I think they would be confused with the models and how to use them. 3 / 5
