Description
Have You Ever…

.felt unsure of how to approach a family member, friend or colleague who may be struggling with a mental health issues?
.wondered what the early warning signs of Depression might be?
.wished that you could help break the silence and provide a safe and accepting workplace?

Untreated mood disorders are costly – personally, corporately and socially. We know that mental health claims are the fastest growing category of disability costs and that the workplace is an important venue for detection, support and connection to treatment.

In this presentation, we will examine three of the major mood disorders including Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Seasonal Affective Disorder. Though Depression is a wide spread illness that affects about 10% of the population there is a lot of misinformation surrounding it. We will look at how it differs from the blues and how this biochemical disorder causes changes in a person’s mood, behaviour and feelings and interferes with their everyday living.

Through this stress and depression presentation, you will become aware of not only the signs, but the impact and treatment options available for Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Seasonal Affective Disorder. You will gain the insight and the practical tools needed to reduce the stigma and provide support to a co-worker, employee or family member who may be exhibiting and experiencing one of these mental illnesses.

What have others said about this presentation:

I was a little disappointed. I thought there would be more information on how to deal with depression in the workplace. How the HR department can handle situations in an appropriate manner and how to deal with questions that arise from other employees in dealing with depression regarding a coworker. 3 / 5
Good Presentation
In some ways i found the presentation depressing in and of itself. I never realized how prevalent depression is in society and how many people are on meds which I am against. Very sad. We need to do more to combat this issue. 3 / 5

This webinar was basically an overview of depression and its symptoms. While this is important information it was not really an HR presentation. I expected this presentation to be far more about depression impact on workplace and what HR has to deal with i.e. - ee privacy rights with depression ADA accomodation requirements for depression etc 2 / 5
