Pre-Tax Benefits Promoted in Consumer Education Website and Savings Challenge Sweepstakes

By:
Date: October 6 2011

(October 6, 2011 – San Mateo, California) – Save Smart, Spend Healthy, a consumer education campaign sponsored by WageWorks, Inc., a leading provider of tax-advantaged programs, today launched an enhanced website at www.SaveSmartSpendHealthy.com and new Facebook-based sweepstakes to educate consumers on the opportunity to save money with pre-tax health care, dependent care and commuter benefits.  The campaign’s focus expanded this year to include information on pre-tax dependent care and commuter benefits, in addition to health care flexible spending accounts.

“When you find many households struggling financially and enrollment in pre-tax benefits is only around 20 percent, it is clear that more education is needed,” said WageWorks’ CEO Joe Jackson.  “What many may not realize is that pre-tax benefits are exclusively designed to save consumers money on their routine health care, dependent care and commuter expenses.”

Manisha Thakor, a certified financial planner, encourages consumers to consider enrolling in pre-tax benefits and to use the Save Smart, Spend Healthy website to prepare for open enrollment.

“Anyone working for an employer that offers pre-tax benefits should take some time to learn how the benefits work and determine what they could be saving on their health care, dependent care and commuter costs,” said Ms. Thakor.  “To prepare for open enrollment, employees should use the Save Smart, Spend Healthy website to find information on how the accounts work, lists of eligible expenses and calculators for determining how much they should set aside and expect to save.”

The WageWorks Savings Challenge sweepstakes, which is based on Facebook, allows participants to quickly calculate the savings they can expect by using pre-tax health care, dependent care and commuter benefits and then enter to win a weekly drawing for a $250 Visa gift card.  Participants can also gain additional entries to the sweepstakes by referring their friends on Facebook.  The sweepstakes concludes November 31, 2011.
