Washington, D.C., May 5, 2011 – Miller & Chevalier Chartered announced that Eva P. McComas has joined the Employee Benefits practice as Counsel. She comes to the firm from Towers Watson, a global benefits consulting firm, where she was a Senior Consultant. She is resident in the firm’s Palo Alto office.
McComas has extensive experience in the area of employee benefits, with a focus on the requirements of ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code applicable to tax-qualified retirement plans and health and welfare plans. She has advised clients on a broad range of issues with respect to retirement plans (401(k), defined benefit and 403(b)), such as correction of operational and plan document failures, Department of Labor (DOL) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) examinations, termination and merger of plans in the context of mergers and acquisitions, fiduciary issues, plan design and drafting, SPDs, participant notices, and reporting and disclosure requirements. She has also counseled clients concerning various health and welfare issues, including cafeteria plans, flexible spending accounts, non-discrimination testing, and COBRA.
McComas represents clients in a variety of sectors, with particular emphasis on the technology and entertainment industries. She advises them on both federal and California state employee benefits laws. Because of her years of experience in law firms, as well as in consulting and accounting firms, she brings a unique perspective to her clients, having advised at the early stages on the design of retirement and health and welfare plans and navigated diverse controversy and compliance issues. Her practice has been based in the San Francisco Bay area, including Silicon Valley, for the past sixteen years. Prior to Towers Watson, she worked at several law firms, including the San Francisco office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.
“Eva brings a wealth of experience and an in-depth understanding of both the federal and California state employee benefits issues impacting employers in Silicon Valley,” said Fred Oliphant, Chair of Miller & Chevalier’s Employee Benefits practice. “She has a long history of practicing in the San Francisco Bay area and representing diverse clients, particularly in the technology and entertainment sectors. Her broad experience, her reputation for developing practical solutions to complex problems, and her significant industry knowledge, will be of great benefit to our practice.”
