INTEGRATED HEALTHCARE STRATEGIES’ SURVEY ON ADVANCED PRACTICE CLINICIANS PROVIDES UNIQUE PAY DATA

By:
Date: July 11 2011

KANSAS CITY, MO – July 11, 2011 - Integrated Healthcare Strategies, a healthcare consulting and survey firm providing performance-enhancing engagement and alignment solutions, announces the release of a new version of its survey on advanced practice clinician providers.  The Advanced Practice Clinician Survey is one of the first and few providing healthcare organizations with a wide scope of national data on cash compensation and pay practices for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified nurse midwives.

First launched in 2010 as the Mid-Level Provider Survey, Integrated Healthcare Strategies renamed the survey in 2011 to better reflect the full spectrum of healthcare providers it represents, and the expanded compensation data reported in this comprehensive survey.  In its first year, the survey rapidly gained popularity, reflecting the increasing utilization of advanced practice clinician providers to efficiently expand patient access while improving quality of care.

The inaugural report analyzed data from 206 healthcare organizations on over 13,000 providers.  Highlights from the 2010 survey revealed that nurse practitioners and physician assistants employed in a hospital setting are paid 5 to 10 percent more, on average, than their clinic/office peers.  In addition, providers practicing in medicine and surgical specialties are paid between 5 to 10 percent more, on average, than those practicing in primary care specialties.

The 2010 survey also showed that individual performance bonuses (non-production based) and retention bonuses ranged from $3,500 to $5,000 for PA and NP positions.  Of the total participants, only 28 percent of organizations reported offering incentives to their advanced practice clinicians, with gain sharing and individual performance bonuses being the most prevalent.  The data supported a growing trend in productivity incentive programs as organizations look for additional ways to recognize high performers.

New features in the 2011 Advanced Practice Clinician Survey include pay practice trending, productivity data for work RVUs and professional collections, custom data cuts, and regional data now coming standard.
The 2011 Advanced Practice Clinician Survey is now open for participation; for more information and to participate in the survey, visit http://ihstrategies.com/sur_nhc_advanced_practice.php.
