Successful programs focus efforts with clearly defined and meaningful goals that can be measured;
are achievable; have buy-in from personnel across the ladder; and are supported by management
with training and resources. Rewards and recognition are powerful and effective tools for
performance improvement when well developed and executed and, as shown in one study, when
they have full top down and bottom up engagement.
