Getting Recertified via The Institute for Human Resources
HR professionals are required to keep their certifications current by recertifying every 2-3 years, depending on the certification. The Institute for Human Resources contains thousands of relevant webcasts that qualify as recertification credits, and offers them to you in a manner that is both time and cost efficient. Most importantly, all the credits you require to recertify can be obtained in our Recertification Program.

Just become a free member, and purchase the Recertification Program for $250 per year. Then choose and watch your webcasts, track your progress on your My Certifications page, and submit your credits upon completion. Watch our Recertification Demo for more details!
Recertification Requirements
Each webcast on is carefully selected and applicable for one or all three of the available credit types.

Simple, Cost Effective and Designed to Fit your Schedule
Recertification represents your continued commitment to learning and is an essential component of our IHR Expert Certification program. The objective is to ensure that individuals certified by IHR participate in ongoing training and learning development activities.
The following recertification criteria applies:

  • Programs with 40 hours of learning:
    - 14 webcasts over 2 years
  • Programs with 30 hours of learning:
    - 10 webcasts over 2 years
  • Programs with 25 hours of learning:
    - 8 webcasts over 2 years
HRCI Webcast and eLearning credits on
Each HRCI approved one-hour webcast is submitted to qualify for one HRCI recertification credit. The archive of the webcast also qualifies for recertification credits, for one (in some cases two) year(s) after the original broadcast date. You can get all of your PHR, SPHR, GPHR and credits without ever leaving your desk!
Here is what you need to accumulate in order to recertify online:
  • PHR: 
    - 60 General HRCI Credits
  • SPHR:
    -15 Business Strategic HRCI Credits
    -45 General HRCI Credits
  • GPHR:
    -15 International HRCI Credits
    -45 General HRCI Credits
NOTE: the HRCI will only accept 20 Webcast credits towards your recertification. However, they will accept an UNLIMITED amount of eLearning credits towards your recertification. You can take all 60 of the required HRCI Credits as eLearning, with the Institute for Human Resources.
