New York, NY—May 23, 2012—Harris, Rothenberg International, Inc. (HRI) and Rethink Autism today announced a first-of-its-kind partnership to offer families effective and affordable Applied Behavior Analysis-based treatment tools for the growing population affected by autism spectrum disorders.
Following a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report, it is now estimated that one in 88 children has an autism spectrum disorder, marking a 23% increase since the issuance of the last report in 2009 and 78% increase since 2007.
“The growing number of people dealing with the complexities of autism diagnosis and care has created a significant workplace challenge for both organizations and employees,” said Chris Cavazos, HRI’s chief operating officer. “Joining forces with Rethink Autism allows us to offer our clients and their employees affordable, effective and results-proven ABA-based online tools to help parents and caregivers address and treat the spectrum disorder.”
HRI clients who elect to purchase the program for their employees will now be able to offer an ABA-based program with proven results. Endorsed by the US Surgeon General and the American Academy of Pediatrics, ABA is the only treatment for autism that has been consistently validated by independent scientific research. The HRI/Rethink Autism program encompasses the following areas:
After completing a brief skills checklist online, parents and caregivers are provided with an individualized ABA-based learning plan for their child.
The program offers more than 1,200 video teaching modules providing comprehensive lessons and activities for caregivers to complete with their child and addressing eight key skill categories: Pre-Academic, Academic, Social / Emotional, Daily Living, Motor, Play & Leisure, Expressive Language and Receptive Language. Each video teaching module depicts a clinically trained therapist working with a child on the spectrum and comes with a companion written lesson plan.
The online system provides automated data tracking and reporting, which automatically measures treatment results over time so parents and caregivers can accurately monitor progress or address areas of need more directly.
“We believe that every child can learn. Research has shown that interventions based on Applied Behavior Analysis maximize the developmental potential of children with an autism spectrum disorder,” said Jamie Pagliaro, Executive Vice President of Rethink Autism. “Our goal is to help parents reduce the stress associated with teaching their children who have been diagnosed with autism. This new partnership between HRI and Rethink Autism will not only help create stronger, more involved and aware parents, but also stronger, more engaged children.”
