Topic: Learning to Lead Through Adversity: Leveraging the power of vulnerability, trust and authenticity
  Date: April 6, 2010 at 1:00 - 2:00 PM ET

Description
These are challenging times to be a leader. Change strikes and leaders huddle to craft a response. Employees, sensing the danger and detachment, hunker down and brace for the worst. The triggering events may change, but the ability to guide an organization back to stability from the depths of adversity continues to be among the most vexing and enduring of leadership challenges. There is a recurring pattern of missteps and misperceptions in response to leading people through the process of transition, recovery and revitalization. In general, people are worn down by the human and emotional impact of constantly living on the edge of ambiguity and uncertainty. They seek not only a sense of direction and focus, but also a source of inspiration, empathy and hope. They examine their leadership; looking for signs of competence, self-awareness and good intentions. Authenticity is critical but difficult to cultivate in leaders who are themselves caught up in an emotional loop that can cycle between fear and paralysis, anger and resistance, and resiliency and recovery. This webinar explores these issues, examining some of the critical elements required for enhancing authentic change leadership. Developing the capacity to lead in the face of adversity is less about finding a best practice model or crafting the ultimate set of competencies; and more about helping executives understand, own and share who they are - both as leaders and as people. It’s about cultivating leadership as a way of being rather than a template for doing.
